Palace of culture by the Mining equipment repair plant (MERP)

This monument of Soviet architecture is located in Fyodorovka district. Just like many buildings of this period, the Palace of culture by MERP was mainly built by KARLAG prisoners, namely the Japanese prisoners of war in 1950’s. In Soviet times it was an important culture and leisure center of Karaganda city with its own library and various clubs and circles operating there. It was the place where various events and concerts were held. However, the building had been long abandoned and is now in a sorry state. Despite its historical and cultural value, there are unfortunately no actual plans to reconstruct or restore the building.
