The project aimed at development of community-based ecological tourism in Karaganda region is being implemented by Avalon Public Foundation in cooperation with Karaganda EcoMuseum and Nomadic Travel Kazakhstan travel company since August 2010 with financial support of GEF/UNDP Small Grants Programme.

The main aim of the project is the preserving of biodiversity and support of sustainable development of natural resources of three protected areas of Central Kazakhstan: Kyzylarai and Ulytau wildlife reserves, Karkaraly state national nature park and wildlife reserve by local rural communities of villages situated in their neighbourhood, by means of involving them into development of ecological tourism.

Involving population living in the neigbourhood to PA into tourism services rendering will provide rural communities with additional sources of income and decrease anthropogenic influence at these protected areas, taking people away from direct use of natural resources such as poaching etc.
