MAPPING AS A TOOL FOR ECOTOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN KAZAKHSTAN
(2017-2019)

North Aral Sea region

The project is implemented by Avalon Historico-Geographical Society with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan.

The main goals of the 2-year project (2017-2019) are creating bigger informational accessibility of Kazakhstani protected areas and creating additional economic opportunities for the local communities involved into ecotourism development, by publishing and free wide distribution of travel maps and editing the major web mapping services.

In the framework of the project we are going to create travel maps of North Aral Sea region and Karkaraly (in 2018), West Altai, Zhongar-Alatau, Sairam-Ugam and Kokshetau (in 2019), as well as add respective travel information to the web mapping services: Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, Wikimapia, as well as geotagged pages and places part of Facebook.
