The project is aimed at the development of community-based and ecological tourism in Karaganda region. Since august 2010 it has been implemented by "Avalon" Public Foundation in cooperation with Karaganda Ecological Museum and "Nomadic Travel Kazakhstan" travel company with the financial support from GEF/UNDP Small grants programme. At the moment the second phase of the project is in the process of implementation.

The goals of the second phase are biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in the territory of Kyzylarai State nature reserve (Karaganda region), as well as capacity building and consolidation of local community of Shabanbai Bi village, adjacent to the reserve, by means of ecotourism development, control over the stream of non-official holidaymakers and creation of the respective infrastructure at the reserve. We are planning to reach the stated goals in close cooperation with "Aktogai forest and fauna conservation department" SE, as well as local administration of Shabanbai Bi rural district.
